Plans discovered for "The Bank" dating back to 1874

Our development, The Bank was originally built for the Cory Brothers back in 1874 who were major coal exporters.

Elevation from 1874 showing submission by F Cutlan for Cory Brothers for their offices. This is the James Street elevation.

Through research at The Glamorgan Archives, Quin & Co have located original plans dating back to 1874.

Submission by Architect Whinney showing alterations to the building; this is prior to its extension.

In 1874 when the building was constructed it was a smaller building on the corner of James St and Bute Street; it was in 1901 & 1915 where the building was altered and extended and if you look at the windows you can see the different style; it was around this time that the Midland Bank (now HSBC) bought the building.

As part of our development we will share the heritage and history of this iconic building.

Letter submitted with the planning application in 1915 to extend the building to its current form.
